The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) met on July 15, 2011. Outgoing Federal CIO Vivek Kundra updated the committee and gave insights into many of the challenges he sees ahead. “I think the privacy implications are very, very serious,” Kundra said. “From a national security perspective what we’ve done is we’ve made sure that the NSC (National Security Council) is involved as we’re vetting some of these critical data sets.”
The four areas he focused on were:
1. Structural Challenges (See: 25 Point Plan to Reform Federal IT)
2. Efficiency and Effectiveness
3. Cybersecurity
4. Open Government
